Eulogy read at the funeral service

In 1944, Susan Mary Salt was born to Kathleen and James Salt. Susan started her life in Iver Heath and had a happy childhood. She was fond of swimming from an early age and was lucky enough to enjoy this later in life in her own swimming pool. In 1948 Richard, Susan's brother was born, although Susan was more outgoing than Richard, they remained close until he was sadly taken at the age of 34. At the age of 11, Susan attended Langley Grammar School, and it was then that Susan first met Rosemary, who became her lifelong friend. Rosemary recalls that Susan was a stunning beauty at the age of 12, and a very good scholar. A recollection that Rosemary holds dear is one occasion in a French class, Susan was chatting away to Rosemary, much to the annoyance of the teacher. Susan was kept back at the end of the class and when she came out, she was crying- a rare sight. She said, through her sniffling that the teacher had told her she would end up washing bottles in a factory. This to Sue was absolutely horrifying! Rosemary admits secretly she was quite amused. At the age of 14, Susan and her family moved to Stoke Poges and Rosemary and Susan spent many Friday nights in the local pub, drinking lemonade, making new friends and dancing to the juke box. Susan's love of traveling started from an early age, her burning ambition was to work for the airlines and to achieve this she took a job in France as an Au pair to perfect her French before she began her lifelong career with British Airways which she loved. While working at the airport Susan met Keith and they married in 1978. Susan's love of traveling rubbed off on Keith, so much so that they spent their honeymoon in Kenya, a place Susan loved and returned to on numerous occasions during her life. Soon after they got married, they looked after Keith's sister, Karen from the age of 12, a valuable experience that shaped Susan's life and helped prepare her for the arrival of Amanda in 1986, Susan's only child. Susan passed her love of traveling down to Amanda and they were lucky enough to go to some really exotic places as a family which she will never forget. Susan will be remembered as outgoing, she was never scared to try anything and even let an elephant walk over her, something I'm sure is no longer permitted by health and safety! Susan visited almost every continent in the world but always made the time for several visits to Spain every year of her married life, she always wanted to live there, and with her dedication she made it happen 5 years ago with Keith and Kathleen. Everyone who met Susan said she was so easy going, there was nothing she liked more than relaxing round her pool with a vodka and lime, reading a good book. Susan's love of Elvis was infectious, she introduced Rosemary to his music at the age of 14 and even Amanda is now a fan. Susan saw the impersonators in Las Vegas on several occaisions but always said it wasn't like the real thing. One of her many ambitions was to visit Graceland which she and Rosemary had planned to do at the end of this year, unfortunately she never got there. Her closest friends and family have hundreds of memories of the good times with Susan and are blessed to have loved her and to have been loved by her. She may be gone from this life, but all those who knew her will hold her memory dear and talk about her and keep her alive. She was a sweet, gentle, human being.
